AAUA CONVOCATION

ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY AKUNGBA AKOKO

ABOUT 5,252 students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, (AAUA) Ondo State, will be awarded various degrees and diplomas at the 8th Convocation ceremony slated for Friday, November 23, 2018.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, who disclosed this on Monday, during a press conference to herald the convocation ceremony, said out of this number, 5,101 were conferred with first degrees, 39 would receive Master’s degrees, 108 bagged postgraduate diplomas while four students earned Doctors of Philosophy (PhD)
Ajibefun disclosed that out of this number, 31 students graduated with first class Honours, 1,132 bagged Second Class Upper Division, 3,143 received Second Class Lower Division, 773 with Third Class while 22 had Pass Degree.
He said the University would confer a distinguished Nigerian, Mrs Sijuade Iluyomade, with an Honorary Award during this year Convocation ceremony, saying the lifestyle and achievements of the awarded tallied with the institution’s tradition of excellence and integrity.
He said: “In recognition of her contributions to the development of the society, Mrs Sijuade Iluyomade, the founder and convener of the Arise Foundation will be conferred with Doctor of Law. (Honoris Causa).”
According to him, the week-long ceremony would also feature a Convocation lecture with the title “Nigerian University System: Stability and Global Competitiveness” which will be delivered by the Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife, Prof Micheal Faborode, on Wednesday, November 21, 2018.
He said the institution would continue to sustain the integrity of its academic programme in line with the vision handed over by its founding fathers some 19 years ago.
He said: “The five kernels that were put in place by the University to deliver sustainable academic integrity for optimal performance were sustained during the year under review.
“The measures have delivered dividends that have marked out the University as a frontline institution in the country.
“It is my pleasure to report that law students of the University have consistently made First Class at the Nigerian Law School in the last five years. In 2018 final Bar Examinations of the Nigerian Law School, Miss Agbede Blessing Olajumoke also made a First Class at the examinations.”
He, however, commended some stakeholders for their intervention towards the development of the institution despite the harsh economic realities in the country.
“We would like to put on record and deeply appreciate the intervention of the Federal Government Needs Assessment for executing different projects.
“The Tertiary Education Trust Fund for constructing major buildings for the faculty of Arts and Education, and the Prophet T. B Joshua for donating N20m to the University for procurement of a bus for the University.”
